The "Event 201" took place in October 2019 and was a high-level simulation exercise organized by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, the World Economic Forum, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The aim of the event was to simulate a coronavirus pandemic scenario to assess the response of governments, institutions, and businesses to a global health crisis.
During the exercise, participants played the roles of government leaders, health experts, business representatives, and media members, among others, to discuss and make decisions in response to a hypothetical outbreak of a new coronavirus called "CAPS" (Coronavirus Associated with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). The event aimed to identify gaps and challenges in pandemic preparedness and response.
It is important to note that Event 201 was a simulation exercise and not a direct prediction of the COVID-19 pandemic that occurred shortly thereafter. The purpose of such exercises is to enhance preparedness and response to public health emergencies by analyzing hypothetical scenarios and identifying lessons learned.

In November 2021, Gates granted an interview to the British think tank Policy Exchange, alongside British parliamentarian Jeremy Hunt, where he warned about the risks of attacks through the manipulation of the monkeypox virus.

During the event, participants experienced challenges such as rapid disease spread, shortage of medical resources, implementation of quarantine measures, and making difficult decisions to protect the population.
